In life, often times, we feel hurried to get things done. Deadlines at work, studying for school, a never ending to-do list, deciding what’s for dinner, catching up on social media, managing emails, spending time with friends and family….it can all be so exhausting! While we are in such a rush to finish up our projects, we may find ourselves irritable, on edge, frustrated, and impatient. We miss the things that really truly matter in life, all for the sake of getting things done and being able to move on to the next one.
This is why I started the practice of 3, 2, 1…into fun. All you have to do is keep your attention for 3 seconds on something positive, a 3 second pause to really enjoy the moment. This idea has helped me command more joy in my life, because I am able to create longer moments of presence and peace. I have seen its amazing effects in all areas: with relationships at work with my team, during my daily exercise routine, while reading and writing, and in everyday life.
3, 2, 1…into fun looks like this: the next time you are looking lovingly at your significant other, hold onto that moment for just 3 seconds longer…3, 2, 1. The next time you are walking outside and you see a beautiful flower, continue to notice it’s wonderful colors for 3, 2, 1. This conscious pause to bring total awareness to the here and now heightens our senses and deepens our satisfaction of the present.
Awareness is the key to bringing fullness to our lives, and when we pause to celebrate these moments, we become more filled with gratitude and appreciate the richness life has to offer.
Before long, you will find that 3,2,1 turns into even longer stretches of time, like 4 seconds, 5 seconds…maybe even longer!
